9 June 2013: Dorking to Abinger Forest

I led five of us on an 11-mile walk from Dorking west through the Nower along the Greensand Way and then south along Wolvens Lane to Upper Merriden Cottage.

Wolvens Lane is a Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT), so we had to stand back for 4x4s and scrambler bikes on several occasions.
After lunch near the cottage, we turned east to Holmwood Common, dashing across the A24 and returning to Dorking via green paths and back alleys. We hunted high and low in Dorking for an open tea shop, until we found the Viva Restaurant (Steve’s banoffee pie looked particulary generous).
