20 October 2013: Wendover, Coombe Hill, Little Hampden Common

The view from Coombe Hill

The view from Coombe Hill

Two of us started from Wendover station and headed up onto Bacombe Hill to the splendid viewpoint on Coombe Hill in sunny if breezy weather. We then headed south on the South Bucks Way to Little Hampden Common, through meadows and forests just turning orange and yellow. Sadly the pub shown on the map there has closed, so we had our sandwiches in the forest. We then turned east at Little Hampden and climbed up through Hampdenleaf Wood, before returning on the bridlepath through Dunsmore to Wendover. By this time the rain had settled in, but as Billy Connolly put it, there is no bad weather, only the wrong sort of clothing. We adjourned to the chocolate shop in Wendover for a well-earned tea.
