24 November 2013: Blackheath to the Isle of Dogs circular walk

Seven of us did a circular walk from Blackheath station across Blackheath and into the top of Greenwich Park passing the Old Royal Observatory, and Planetarium. From here the view over Greenwich & the River Thames is magnificent. After seeing part of the meridian line we descended to the river passing the National Maritime Museum, Royal Naval College, Queens House and Cutty Sark which has been recently renovated after a destructive fire.

In Greenwich some of the group bought tasty hot food from an Ethiopian stall in Greenwich Market to eat beside the Cutty Sark. Then we walked under the Thames thorough the foot tunnel to the north side of the river at Island Gardens to experience the classic view of Greenwich with its complex of buildings and the park rising behind them.

We retraced our steps under the river and returned along the opposite side of the park through the flower garden eventually leaving the park and walking back to the station.
