28th December 2014: King’s Cross to the Olympic Park

Five of us (including a couple of friends) met behind King’s Cross Station on a cold, sunny day, avoiding the crowds of people looking for scarce trains, and headed along King’s Boulevard to Granary Square. Here we joined the tow path of the Regent’s Canal. Soon the canal enters the Islington Tunnel, so we had to negotiate the streets before rejoining the canal beyond the Angel.

Dodging the cyclists and runners and enjoying the boats and graffiti art and a break at a canalside cafe, we came to Victoria Park where we stopped to eat our sandwiches. Here we joined the Hertford Union Canal, eventually entering the Olympic Park. The stadium is still undergoing work to transform it into a football stadium, so there were areas boarded off. Passing a bank of surprisingly early daffodils, we merged with the crowds in Westfield Shopping Centre and finished an enjoyable walk at Stratford Station.
