14th June 2015: Borough Green, Mereworth Woods and the Bourne valley

Jonathan led us on a circular walk from Borough Green station. The first section, mostly on road, took us through Platt to join the Wealdway, a long distance trail from Gravesend to Beachy Head. That took us into Mereworth Woods, but we soon cut away across fields to the west, to gently descend into the valley of the river Bourne.

After lunch, we followed the river along a sometimes overgrown path. At Basted, the paper mill that used to be powered by this little stream has been completely replaced by “executive-style homes”. From there a short sharp ascent took us back to Borough Green and the train home.
