30th August 2015: Berwick to Seaford along the Vanguard Way

It was an unexpectedly warm and humid Bank Holiday Sunday when 7 of us plus Woody travelled out via Brighton to Berwick. Our first stop was to view the interior of Berwick church, decorated by members of the Bloomsbury Group, mainly Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell. From here we headed across open fields towards Alfriston, with a lunch stop just before reaching that busy village. From Alfriston we followed the trickle of the Cuckmere River, then via the Friston Forest to Exceat where cream teas were much appreciated. Refreshed, we crossed the river and followed it out to the sea. From the Seaford cliffs the views of the Seven Sisters were spectacular. At Seaford there was time for an ice cream before a late return home on the train via Lewes. Thanks to Hugh for stepping in at the last minute to lead this splendid Bank Holiday day out.DSC00126 DSC00136 DSC00142 DSC00144
